Melani N. Douglass is an artist and an educator. In her 10 years of experience in the classroom, Melani and her students used art as a tool to learn, heal, explore the world and make connections. During her tenure as a middle school teacher, Melani trained educators on arts integration in the curriculum. In addition, her methods led her to be honored as a Master Teacher of Adult Basic Education by OSSE (Office of the State Superintendent of Education) for her innovative work with students seeking to obtain their GED.
Even though Ms. Douglass is no longer in the classroom, art is still her primary vehicle to experience the world we live in. She enjoys creating work that allows her and her viewers to oscillate between the worlds of being the artist and the audience. Her current work is a meeting place of mathematical equations, patterns in nature, spirituality, color and sound.
Melani N. Douglass currently lives and creates in Anacostia.
